So the plan is to have at least one major clean up event per week however in between I will be doing impromptu mini cleans in the areas I bike through, just wherever I see a need. I’ll be collecting data to help ICC Philippines (International Coastal CleanUp Philippines) based in Subic/Zambales area.
Coordinates: 9 deg 5′ 49”, 123 deg, 12′ 11”
Volunteers: Ray Gadiana, Dorothy Suan and others.
Stats: In a half hour power clean we were able to grab..
28 soft plastic bags, 22 snackpackets, 14 plastic cups, 5 straws, 2 tshirts, 27 plastic bottle lids, 8 cigarette packets, 1 jandal, 35 plastic drink bottles, 5 pieces of Polystyrene, 5 lolly wrappers and lots of a few other miscellaneous items.
I was surprised at the number of plastic drink bottles found in this area, more than other beach clean ups I have done. As usual snack packets were one of the main contributors.
Cheers to the volunteers and great to keep another sack of trash out of our oceans! And also thanks to Marine Conservation Philippines (MCP) who already do a huge amount of work in this area to keep it tidy. It was definitely one of the cleaner coastal areas I have seen. I will post about the work of MCP soon.
